BIO

My journey into ceramics began with an intuitive sense, much like recognizing the authenticity of a smile. Creating new ideas feels like revealing my true self. Working with clay, I embrace a process that reflects memory, resilience, and growth, all rooted in my Korean heritage.

I explore the history of primitivism, sculptural landscapes, rituals, and objects from my childhood. Inspired by the minimalist forms of traditional Korean pottery, especially the humble 'moon-jar,' I reinterpret these influences, adding unexpected colors and surface variations to spark contemporary conversations.

Glazing and layering forms add depth to my work. Each layer reflects my thoughts and uncertainties. The final result is hidden until after firing, much like how I cannot predict the outcome of my actions. The kiln transforms the piece in unexpected ways—colors deepen, cracks form, and textures appear, showing both my control and the unpredictability of life. Imperfections aren’t mistakes; they tell the story of the process.

A crack may come from a mistake, just as my scars reveal difficult moments in my life. These flaws make each piece unique and meaningful.

Crafting ceramics allows me to channel my emotions and creativity into tangible art. The shift from fashion to ceramics has been a profound journey of self-discovery and artistic evolution. I embrace the challenge of preserving traditional techniques while pushing the boundaries of form and design. My work reflects a harmonious balance of my roots and contemporary outlook.

In this way, ceramic art mirrors my life—capturing moments of joy, pain, growth, and resilience. Each piece invites me to appreciate not just the finished result, but the process—the layers, reshaping, and transformation that make me who I am. Through my ceramics, I share a piece of my world, inviting others to see the beauty and stories in every creation.
